The Story.

Our Story

The story of Sher Cricket Club began in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) back in 2016. What started as a simple desire among a tight-knit group of players to get out on the pitch and play the game they loved quickly grew into something much deeper. We started as a modest club with just a single team in Markham. From day one, the vision championed by our President was clear: to create an environment where cricket is just the beginning. Above all, the goal was to foster a true family atmosphere where everyone has fun, supports one another, and feels a profound sense of belonging.

In Urdu, the word Sher (شیر) translates to "Lion." While a lion traditionally represents strength, courage, and fierce pride on the field, for us, it carries an even deeper meaning off the pitch. Lions live in a pride—they are fiercely loyal, protective of one another, and entirely family-oriented. On the field, we play with the heart and passion of lions; off the field, we operate as a tight-knit pack. This is a family we are building, not just a cricket team.

The Pride Today & Our "Secret"

That core culture is exactly why we have grown from that single Markham squad into three competitive teams playing across the GTA. Today, we are widely recognized as one of the most looked-up-to clubs in the region. From our custom kit designs to our social media presence and high-quality game day content, everything you see is handled entirely in-house by our fellow Shers. We take immense pride in setting the standard for how a club presents itself to the world.

We will even let you in on a little secret: do you know how we recruit our players? It is never about raw skills, the number of centuries they have scored, or the stats they have on paper. We select our people based on the attitude and character they bring to the field and the club. On that, there is absolutely no compromise. If you share our heart, our passion, and our commitment to the pride, you are a Sher.
